The Importance Of Getting Up And Moving
Physical inactivity may be the most common chronic disease in our country if not worldwide; two-thirds of the nation doesn’t meet the national recommendations for physical activity, said Thomas Michael Best, M.D., Ph.D., sports medicine specialist at the University of Miami Sports Medicine Institute.
Sitting for long periods of time has been linked to a number of health problems. These include obesity and a cluster of conditions (increased blood pressure, high blood glucose levels, excess body fat around the waist, and unhealthy cholesterol levels) that make up metabolic syndrome and also, many muscular injuries.
Spending Many Hours Sitting And The Eternal Back Pain
One of the most common pains that people who spend a lot of time sitting throughout the day refer to is lower back pain better known as lumbago. Why does this pain occur? First of all, because the sitting position is not the natural one for human beings: our body is designed to move, not to spend eight to ten hours a day sitting.
Our spine is designed to support the weight of our body. By sitting for a long time, besides the spine losing its main function, we generally tend to sit in an incorrect posture, losing the normal curvature of the lower back.
How To Incorporate Physical Exercise In The Daily Routine?
Recent research indicates that 30 to 40 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous daily physical activity reduces the adverse health effects of 10 hours of sitting.
These are some exercises or movements that you can apply to your routine to increase the time of physical activity in your daily life.
- Change your means of transportation
If your work, or the places you frequent are not so far from your home, change your means of transportation and increase exercise in your routine, you can go walking or by bicycle, this will be a great benefit for your health.
- Avoid elevators, electric ramps and stairs
It may not seem like something that adds much exercise to your routine, but doing it consistently will increase your fitness and will provide better health for you.
- Walk after lunch
If you have a little free time when taking lunch, take 10-15 minutes to go for a walk, this, in addition to helping you digest food better, will also help you increase your condition.
- Invite your loved ones for a walk
The next time you have plans to see a friend or family member, invite them to walk with you, catch up, chat, and have a good time together while exercising.
- Do exercises at home
We know that it is very helpful for someone to help you with all the chores around the house, but an excellent option for people who want to carry out some type of activity at home, would be to dedicate yourself to doing all these tasks yourself, this would require a lot of physical movement and this can positively help your routine.
- Do the things you like while you walk
Do you like singing, listening to music or audiobooks? You can enjoy all these activities while you are on a walk, this will make time go by faster, you will enjoy it more and it will make you want to do it again.
- Visit your chiropractor
Visit your trusted specialist, with their knowledge and experience they can advise you what kind of physical activities you can do to care for and improve your health. If you already suffer from any of the conditions mentioned above, they can also attend you so that the pain can be treated correctly.
